The painting showcases a woman beginning to dance. She is dressed in a classic romantic tutu that flares outwards around her waist. Rather than having it fall into a classic horizontal shape, her dress falls into a bell curve. Dancer Tilting is a part of Degas' ballerina collection.
About the Artist:
Edgar Degas (1843 - 1917) was a French artist famous for his pastel drawings and oil paintings of ballerinas. Degas also produced bronze sculptures, prints, and drawings. Degas is especially identified with the subject of dance; more than half of his works depict dancers.
